Decorating a living room in an apartment
No matter how big or small your space or budget, great design comes in all shapes and sizes.
- Open Air Furnishings: It’s tough to maintain openness in a crowded apartment room, but choosing armless furniture helps create an airy, unfettered look, giving the illusion of more space.
- Place a rue in the middle of the room. The rug will act as an island, anchoring your furniture.
- Sofa with no arms: Let the sofa “float” in the middle of the room (front legs on the rug, back legs off) so the room can be accessed from all sides.
- Place a coffee table or two in front of the sofa and a TV stand against the wall beyond that.
- If you have 2 wall units/ bookcases, place a mirror between a pair ..it makes it look like a window and makes the room feel bigger.
- Walls color : A little pattern and color on the walls can go a long way in tiny rooms.
- Slipping a slim glass-top console behind the sofa creates a small home office area. The glass top stays airy and it reveals the latticework top. The desk doubles as a snack station for entertaining.
- Dual Purpose: Using furniture pieces that are multifunctional is a bonus when you have space restraints.
- Narrow shelves: Shallow wall shelves not only serve as a photo gallery, they’re also spots to drop keys and sunglasses inside the door. Plus, they visually extend the walls.
- Versatile Ottomans: No room for furniture? Windows long and in the way of wall art? Go low with easy to move ottomans that seat and store.
